Abstract:
The Gnanapadas of the Sivagams are prominent in the philosophy of the Sivagam
tradition. These are particularly expressive of Saivite philosophy. The Paushkaragam
is an important book among the Gnanapada books of the Sivagams, especially those
that expound the philosophy of Saivism. Paushkaragam is one of the Upagama of
Moolagama Parameswaram. This Paushkaragam contains Jnanapadam only. 14th
century AD Chidambaram Umapati Sivacharya, who wrote Saivasiddhanta
Ashtakam in Tamil, wrote Bhasyam for this Paushkaragam in Sanskrit. The
Paushkaragama is particularly important in the Sanskrit Saivasiddhanta tradition of
textual exegesis in the Ashtaprakarans and their texts, as well as the pro-
Saivasiddhanta texts of the Sivagama. The purpose of this study is to reveal how
much importance is given to explaining the content of essence with Saivasiddhanta
paribasha through Umapati Sivacharya's Sanskrit Bhashyam over Sivagama
Paribashas. As a result of this study, it will be revealed that Bhashyam written in
Sanskrit language by Umapati Sivacharya Gnanapada should be interpreted in what
background the explanations for the unique words of Paushkaragama should be
interpreted. The first source for this research is Umapati Sivacharya's edition of
Ambalavana Navalar written in Sanskrit language called Paushkaragama Bhashyam
and other books as supplementary sources. Literary descriptive research
methodology, historical research methodology, and comparative research

methodology, etc. will be used as research methodologies. As a result of this
opportunity, Bhashyam's skillful interpretation of Bhasya written in Sanskrit by
Umapati Sivacharya in Gnana Pada of Sivagams, especially in Paushkaragam Gnana
Pada, will be useful to SaivaSiddhanta philosophers as it identifies its content to the
Saiva Siddhanta Tradition
