Abstract:
This research focuses on the media students’ understanding of
Sinhala cinema’s creative efforts through an in-depth analysis of Director
Laster James Pieries’s film “Nidhanaya”. This study serve as a case study.
This explore understanding and interpretation of the creative effects that
used in the movie “Nidhanaya”. The researchers have selected media
students for the data collection. Because they learn the subjects related with
the movie analysis and because of that they have knowledge to analyze the
cinematography in the movies. The researchers did a case study on 50
media students from 2nd and 3rd year. 25% students are from 2nd year and
25% students are from 3rd year. The result is positive regarding
understanding of Sinhala cinema’s creative efforts. Their perspective about
this film is really good and very creative producing one and that is
something to think about in our life. According to the respondents about
creative effort of the movie is director used very good camera movements,
color managing, dialogues and sound systems. So in the theory level and
practice level they have the understanding about creative effort that used in
the film “Nidhanaya”. As a media students they have enough knowledge to
understand Sinhala cinema’s creative efforts with Nidhanaya movie. As the
suggestion media students need practice and guidance to these kind of
research.
