Today there is a need to talk about the mental health of adolescent female students. These students are affected by many psychological problems due to emotional changes caused by adolescent stage changes and family environmental factors. One of the psychological problems is depression. In the case of adolescent females, dropping from schools, lack of interest in learning, early marriage, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and engaging in antisocial activities are the consequences of this depression. This research has carried out by taking the depression that occurs in adolescents during this period as a research problem. Also, this study has carried out with the aim of identifying the depression of female students and providing a solution to it and finding out the relevance of cognitive behavior counseling as the best solution for the depression. For this study, 250 students of ordinary level standard have selected and the study has carried out with 18 schools under the Paddiruppu educational zone as the research area. All the data was analyzed, the hypotheses were tested, and the results were obtained. This research was analyzed with three main hypotheses. This study was considered experimental research. And 46.4% were depressed as per the first hypothesis. This was confirmed through the research tool beck Depression inventory and counseling sessions. Also, 36 suitable students were selected for the study from among the students who were affected by depression. They are divided into two equal groups, namely the experimental group and the control group and, for a period of 06 months, only the experimental group was applied to cognitive behavior counseling techniques. The second hypothesis that cognitive behavioral counseling is the best solution for depression was also confirmed with the support of a trained senior counselor. Those in the control group were not given any cognitive behavior counseling techniques and were the observation group. Those cognitive behavior techniques did not work for students who were in severe depression. There was no improvement in severe depressed students. And based on this, the third hypothesis was also confirmed. The research conclusion is that the adolescent students who are suffering from depression. Cognitive behavioral counseling is the best solution for depression, and these techniques are not suitable for those who are in severe depression. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods were used in this study in a mixed manner. Recommendations for this research are presented to parents, the education department, principals, students and future researchers through this research. |
