Abstract:
The variety Sudhuheenati was used to study the affinity of Sitophilus oryzae on different types of
rice namely, brown, broken, parboiled and rough rice. It was observed that brown and broken rice
were significantly preferred over brown rice by S. oryzae. No adults developed from rough rice.
As broken rice was attacked most by S. oryzae further studies were conducted with broken rice
of sudhuheenati to determine the efficacy of botanicals, namely Lakada (Gardinia Iatifolia) bud,
Citrus (Citrus aurantifolia) peel and Neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf on S.Oryzae. The result
showed that the S.oryzae population was significantly (P<0.05) reduced by all the botanicals
compared to control. Neem leaf would appear to be most effective among the botanicals tested in
this study
