Abstract:
The experiment was conducted to study the effect of rice water and aquarium water on
growth and yield of chilli (Capsicum frutescens) in Kratky Hydroponic. The experiment
was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments having
twenty replicates. The treatments were recommended dose of Albert's solution (T1), 2.5%
Aquarium water with 2.5% rice washing water (T2), 5% Aquarium water with 2.5% rice
washing water (T3), 7.5% Aquarium water with 2.5% rice washing water (T4) and 10%
Aquarium water with 2.5% rice washing water (T5). The solution was applied to the
nutrient medium before planting and readings were recorded at 2nd, 4th, 6th 8th and 10th
weeks after planting.
The results showed that in Kratky hydroponic system, T1 and T4 showed significant effect
(P<0.05) in growth and yield parameters than other treatment. However, there was no
significant differences (P>0.05) between T1 and T4. This study suggest that 7.5%
Aquarium water with 2.5% rice washing water (T4) could be utilized as substitute medium
for Albert's solution (T1) in hydroponic for chilli cultivation
